Getting Started
Getting started in any process is half the battle. Having a plan and sticking to it is the key to obtaining your next job in medicine. I’m assuming that by virtue of the fact that you made it to and through medical school you have a higher than average level of self-motivation. However, procrastination can still affect doctors. It’s not unusual to see doctors at job interviews who seem unprepared or uncertain about why they want the job or what the job entails. Don’t let this be you. It’s a sure fire way of not being hired. Think about what you want your next job to be like now. Make yourself a plan. And if you are truly not ready to make the next career move. Talk to your current employer about the possibility of extending your current contract or think about working for as a locum for a while. The majority of trainee doctor roles are generally advertised around May to June in Australia and New Zealand and interviews run between about July to September. So there is plenty of time to plan if you give yourself the opportunity.
